Week 16

Well, we had a great visit from Rachel's parents this weekend and my parents are coming into town next weekend so it's been pretty busy around our house. Rachel had a doctor's appointment on Thursday and heard the heartbeat which was around 160 bpm which I think is supposed to mean girl but I'm not sure that has ever been studied. Nov 4 is a big day. Of course, t's ielection day but also Rachel will have a sonogram done to answer this question after all.

In week 16, baby begins laying down fat to protect itself from the outside world. At this point most things are formed and the remainer of the time is preparing the baby to be presented to the outside world. Along the same lines, if you looked, you could see baby's chest rising and falling in an attempt to "breathe." Of course, the lunges are filled with fluid at this point but this rising and falling is an important step in the full development of baby lungs.

Please pray for well developed lungs and and that baby wouldn't be too shy to show us the important stuff on Nov 4th.

Acts 17:25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

Justin,
Thanks for the update and I am praying for good lungs and a "good view" on November 4th. We are so looking forward to our visit.
I talked to Kory today and he said "Hello Me-Maw. Good-bye." I know he and Baby Smith are going to love one another!

We had a great time visiting you all this weekend...Granny D. sure thanks you all for a wonderful dinner, too. Know you're all 3 really ready for the Smith's to take their turn, too!!!

We love knowing that Bean already has a good, strong, growing heart; and now that the lungs are starting to do their job, we'll just keep praying for good health all around. Can't wait to see the pics on the 4th, too. Knowing what a handsome Daddy and perty Mommy he/she has, Bean will be posing nicely (and not too modestly) we hope!!! Smile real big, Bean!!!

Love to all 3 of you!

Hi R & J & Bean,

Just had another thought about lungs....Bean has great genes from Rachel! That girl can sustain a note longer than almost anyone I know. And Bean's dad's athletic strengths will also add to the great lung capacity Bean will have. No doubt about it...GREAT lungs!!!!

Love you all 3!

Smiths,

So excited to find out if it is a buddy for Nathan or a future prom date! As far as heart rate goes, Nathan's bpm have been in the 160's every time...so you just never know. I'm also praying for a good underside shot!!
