This week is a big week for development of the gastrointestinal tract. By now, the pancreas is producing insulin and the liver is beginning to function. It's amazing how something that is so small is already beginning to function in the way it will be required to whenever the baby is born.
Things are going well here. A big decision was made in our family over the past week. After much prayer and consideration, it looks like the little baby growing inside Rachel will grow up in Abilene! We made the decision to forgo my year as chief resident in order to start my career as a general pediatrician at Pediatric Associates of Abilene. This is the practice that I grew up going to as a child. We are very excited about being closer to both of our families. Instead of being 6-7 hours from my family, we will be about 45 minutes (and even closer for some) and Rachel's family goes from being 5-6 hours to being 2.5 hours, which means, much easier access to instant babysitters (you know who you are).
So, on that note, I think it's already time to start prayer that our house will sell when the time is right; otherwise, someone should expect to have a 3 month old living in a spare bedroom for a little while.

Justin,
Someone has already offered for you to stay with them, and she really cooks good, too!!! However, I will pray for your house to sell because it will be easier to move once!
Bring on the babysitting! I am ready.
I am praying for a healthy pancreas and liver.

We are so excited that you, Rachel and Baby Smith will be moving to Abilene. I know you have lots of family willing to babysit, but you can put me on the list, too.
Love you lots,
Delo
Our babysitting fees are VERY reasonable, too! Can't wait to have you guys this close.
As Jan and I read the first part of your note, we just thrill to know every step that Bean is taking toward his or her fullness!
We will join you in praying for the right buyer for the house at just the right time, too.
Love you all 3!

ANOTHER fresh chapter begins! A new job in a familiar place... I'll bet you'll feel at home there, and you can't beat that. We're pleased and excited for your happy news, and I know all four grandparents are tickled pink... or is that blue?
Love and prayers for all three of you! Miss you all -- Kris
Yes! Sign Nathan up as Dr. Smith's first client (after your first born that is)! We can arrange at least our annual check-up with you in Abilene b/c we'll always be passing through...and who wouldn't want to make time for our favorite pediatrician?
